Potatoes 2: The Return of the Crisscut

It's criss, it's cut, aaaand it's back! Jollibee's Crisscut returns to the fast food's menu. Is this a welcome come back, or should this old timer have just stayed out of the game? We put EAT to the TASTE.

As you could recall, these fries come in two flavors; Zesty Cheese and Savory Barbeque. Much to our disappointment, the former was not aptly named; yes there was the cheese which we so zestly ate, but someone obviously forgot to put a memo on the spice in the flavor, not that we hate a little spice- it's just a little off putting. On the other hand, the Savory Barbeque did live up to its name- it was just the right amount of salty, peppery goodness that, yes, it was savory enough for us to enjoy.

Of course, the quality of the fries stayed loyal to its original counterpart. Fresh and perfectly deep fried, meaning it was crisp on the outside and soft in the inside. The size of each cut however were both on the good and bad side for us. Firstly, the crisscut fries was almost twice or thrice the size of the regular fries that the flavors covered more of the potato's areas giving it more taste. This, sadly, also meant that there would be less pieces of these fries in the pack- as each would be bigger and heavier.

The crisscut fries definitely puts the new (well, not so new) and the fresh (potatoes) to your regular french fries. Why eat the regular cut fries when you are 6 pesos away from the flavorful crisscut fries? ;D

Will the Cheese Stay on Top?

Who moved the cheese? KFC literally did- with their "Cheese Top Burger"; yes, you heard it- not a regular cheeseburger but an actual cheese on top cheeseburger. A few days into its first release, this sandwich has already gotten a lot of attention, and to be honest, a lot of criticism. But still, the question remains, is the Cheese Top Burger a flimsy attempt by KFC to deliver a new and fresh idea for burgers, or is it one of the many ingenious creations of the franchise? Regardless, we felt the need to put EAT to the TASTE.

We headed to the nearest KFC and ordered a Cheese Top Burger for the go. For a fast food chain with a catch phrase such as "so good", the cheese top burger isn't looking it's part, as usual.

But, as for all burgers, its the taste not the looks that's important, and so we took a bite. At first thought, putting the cheese on top was a needless idea, but it actually makes sense if you want to separate the cheese from the mash of bun, patty, sauce, and saliva (once you chewed it). Sadly, this was not the case for the Cheese Top Burger. Yes, it did separate the cheese
but it also isolated the taste from the rest of the sandwich leaving the taste of the mediocre chicken patty and sauce in our tongues. At the end of meal, all we had was a salty chicken patty in between two buns--and a cheese which didn't even complement the patty and sauce.

In conclusion, the Cheese Top Burger is just one of those crazy burger ideas that fails to put thought on taste, but sure
enough, we would like to commend KFC for thinking outside the bun! ;)

Everybody hates it when the commercial says "come try our big burger, it's thiiiiiis biiiiiiig" and when you make the purchase *BOOM* you get a tiny patty instead; or that moment when all your friends go "hey, you should try this tasty dish" and when you do, all you get is crap.. well, those days are almost over.. 'coz when they say it's good, we put EAT to the TASTE :D
